Human rights advocate Nicholas Marcus Thompson was officially honored with the prestigious Black Diamond Award during a gala held in Ontario. The event brought together civic leaders, community trailblazers, and change-makers to celebrate Black excellence, resilience, and community impact.

Thompson, who serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Black Class Action Secretariat (BCAS), received the honor in recognition of his relentless leadership in combating systemic racism and institutional discrimination across Canada.

The event featured a keynote presence from Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who attended the gala alongside Ward 1 Councillor Brad Dasko. Addressing the packed room, Mayor Parrish expressed her pride in participating in the celebration and officially recognized the profound contributions of the Black Diamond Award recipients.

The Black Diamond Award highlights a monumental period of advocacy for Thompson, who has increasingly stood at the forefront of Canada's national debate on systemic workplace equity.

Earlier this year, Thompson also successfully convened over 20 labor unions and community organizations to launch the National Employment Equity Council (NEC), to advance, monitor and protect employment equity in Canada.

Just weeks prior to the gala, Thompson stood alongside leaders on Parliament Hill to demand dedicated Black representation on the federal government's newly launched Advisory Council on Rights, Equality and Inclusion.
