Nicholas Marcus Thompson appointed by Toronto City Council to the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee.

Nicholas Marcus Thompson has been appointed by Toronto City Council to serve on the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee for the 2022–2026 term.

This Council-approved body guides the City’s work to confront anti-Black racism and to strengthen outcomes for Black residents across Toronto. The committee plays a key role in advancing the principles of the International Decade for People of African Descent, helping the City act on the pillars of justice, recognition, and development. Its mandate includes identifying systemic barriers, improving access to City services, and ensuring municipal policies reflect the lived realities of Black communities.

Reflecting on his appointment, Nicholas shared:

I’m honoured to take on this role. I bring my experience, and I’m here to listen and to learn. Black communities in Toronto continue to face real barriers, and I’m committed to helping the City address those issues in a fair, practical, and thoughtful way.

Throughout his career, Nicholas has advanced the same principles that guide the International Decade. His work—whether through litigation, advocacy, policy reform, or community organizing—has centered on securing justice for workers, ensuring recognition of systemic barriers, and expanding development opportunities for marginalized communities.

His appointment to CABRAC reflects the City’s confidence in his leadership and his steady commitment to building public institutions that treat people with dignity, act with transparency, and deliver equitable outcomes for all.
