Abigail Thompson earned 1st place in the 200 metres and 2nd place in the 100 metres at the Toronto District Elementary School Athletic Association (TDESAA) Elementary Conference Qualifiers, securing her place at the TDESAA City Championships.
Competing against many of Toronto's top elementary school athletes, Abigail finished 5th in the 200 metres at the City Championships, concluding a successful Grade 8 track and field season.
At the graduation ceremony on June 19, Abigail was named Female Athlete of the Year.
Abigail's selection reflected both her performances in competition and her contributions to the track and field program. Throughout the season, she mentored younger athletes, led group warm-up sessions, maintained excellent attendance at practices, and regularly assisted the coaching staff. Her leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship made her a role model for her teammates.
Throughout the season, Abigail was supported by her father, Nicholas Marcus Thompson, and other members of her family. They attended all three track meets, cheered her on at every finish line, and helped get her to early morning training sessions before school.
Reflecting on Abigail's achievement, Thompson said:
I'm incredibly proud of Abigail. Watching her cross each finish line was special, but what made me even prouder was seeing the person she has become. She worked hard, encouraged her teammates, and embraced every opportunity to learn and lead. To every parent, I would simply say: show up. Take them to practice. Sit in the stands. Cheer them on. Those moments matter. Your presence tells your children that what they're doing is important and that you believe in them. There is no substitute for being there.

Abigail's Grade 8 year ends with conference medals, a place at the TDESAA City Championships, recognition as her school's Female Athlete of the Year, and her graduation from elementary school. She will begin high school this fall.
Congratulations to Abigail Thompson on being named Female Athlete of the Year and on graduating from Grade 8.
