Dr. Itah Sadu Receives Key to the City of Toronto

Nicholas Marcus Thompson attended the Mayor’s Black History Month Reception at Toronto City Hall, where Mayor Olivia Chow presented the Key to the City to Dr. Itah Sadu in recognition of her lifelong contributions as a storyteller, author, and cultural leader whose work has left a lasting imprint on Toronto’s Black community and the city’s cultural life.

During the reception, the Mayor formally proclaimed February 2026 as Black History Month in the City of Toronto.

Nicholas was present with his children to witness the occasion, a moment that allowed them to see a lifetime of cultural leadership honoured at the highest civic level in their city.

Congratulations, Dr. Sadu. Your work has helped define this city’s cultural fabric. For my children to witness this recognition firsthand was deeply meaningful. Toronto is stronger because of your leadership.
