Updated: Dec 23, 2025

In a celebration of legacy and resilience, Nicholas Marcus Thompson was honoured by the Jamaican Canadian Association with its Community Service Award for his dedication to community building and justice.

The honour was presented on January 9 as part of the Jamaican Canadian Association’s Black History Month celebrations, held under the theme “Legacy and Resilience: Celebrating the Black Canadian Experience.”

Thompson was honoured alongside Toronto Police Superintendent Stacy Clarke and Captain (Ret’d) Kevin Junor.

A leading human rights advocate, Thompson is President and CEO of the Black Class Action Secretariat, where he leads efforts to confront systemic discrimination and advance equity for Black workers in Canada and globally. Under his leadership, litigation was launched against 99 Canadian federal departments, helping to drive historic legislative and policy reforms to promote fairness and justice.

Reflecting on the honour, Thompson said:

It’s a tremendous honour to receive this award. Named after Marcus Mosiah Garvey, I feel very strongly about the work that we do pursuing justice, economic freedom, and prosperity for people of African descent, not only in Canada but around the world.

This recognition affirms Thompson’s continued commitment to service, advocacy, and building a more just and inclusive society.
